March - 19

Well the time is here!!  The first ever “Swamp Rat” Rod extravaganza is the end of the month and excitement is growing!  Little details are falling into place and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone. I need as many members to assist with doing a little job helping each day as we can find, so if you are willing to accept a small job for a while please let me know.

All state reps in attendance will be helping our members and proving how much fun we can have when we share. The entry fee for this event not only gets you in the show each day but also includes a pass into the Don Garlits Museums.

Tickets are normally $20 each so that's a saving. But if you have a spouse or passenger with you and need another pass, we will can supply one for an additional $12. That's a $28 savings for a couple to see this amazing collection of racing and antique autos!! Passes are ONLY available to registered participants.

The event will have written games as well as active games, a meet & greet with “Big Daddy” Don Garlits himself, a swap meet, a ladies shopping tour, participant voting for your favorite vehicles, a “Big Daddy” pick, and a just organized Sock Hop on the grounds Saturday evening!!!

Sunday will have an early morning church service, a salute to our veterans and an award ceremony at 2 PM so we can begin our way home early. So, come prepared to have a great time and meet some new and some old friends in the warmth of Florida!!

Jim & Debbie Bledsoe have been very active in keeping me straight via handling the renewal notices and returns. Remember we are the ONLY nationally chartered pre-49 organization left in America and do we intend to stick around! So please continue your support and help us spread the word about our family of like-minded real street rodders.

We will begin in earnest to pull the details together for our Maggie Valley show as soon as this one is in the books. Jim is working on this year's Vintage Road Tour and details are coming soon. (see his article).

I attended a show known as "Billetproof" on March 2nd and had a great time. I met two of our newest members and saw several others as well. We had 2 VSRA members handing out the event fliers for our Ocala show! Thank you to all those helping to promote our efforts.

Well it's back to work for me as I continue to iron out details for the “Swamp Rat” Rat Extravaganza. So, I will close by asking you all to practice safe eating by using condiments!!!  See you in Ocala

It is with heavy hearts that we relay the sad news that we have lost a valued member and friend. Mr. Wayne “Buckaroo” Buxton has passed.

He lost his battle with cancer Saturday March 2nd, 2019. The South Carolina resident was a major part of the street/hot rodding scene for many years.

He was an organizational rep for Good Guys and for Vintage Street Rodders of America. Our prayers are with his wife Rose and the family as they cope with their loss.

Wayne was one of those people that was 'always' around and never met a stranger. He could converse with most everyone. He could take charge of or simply assist with any event or occasion.

He recruited many members for both groups and street rodding in general. Wayne was in high gear most of the time even while fighting his medical problems. It was difficult to slow him down. We are all blessed to have been acquainted with him. He has a permanent place in our memory banks. May GOD bless and receive his soul.
